Director‘s Statement :
The title of the documentary "The Fire Is Burning" vividly describes the living conditions of children in the Sino-Vietnamese border area. Pujiao Village, Jinshuihe Town, Jinping County, Yunnan Province is a small village on the Sino-Vietnamese border. The children here grow up in the loneliness of the border. However, after experiencing long-term poverty and closed borders, these children are facing new challenges in the post-epidemic era.
Loneliness and isolation are the norm for children along the Sino-Vietnamese border. Most of the families here are peasant families. Parents are busy with farm work and have no time to accompany their children. Children lack care and education during their growth. At the same time, due to the remote location, it is difficult for children to access external cultural information and entertainment resources, and life is monotonous and lacks diversity and interest. This kind of loneliness and isolation has greatly restricted children's vision and cognition, and their mental health and personality growth have also been greatly affected. There are many unfavorable factors in the growth environment of children, the most dangerous of which is the violation of drugs. Such a drug-laden village life puts the children in a passive state physically and mentally, lacking initiative and freedom.
Three years into the epidemic, the children's families have also been impacted by the epidemic. In Pujiao Village, the epidemic has dealt a serious blow to their production and income. This makes the children's family's financial situation more difficult, and the anxiety and stress of parents will be passed directly to the children, making their lives more disturbed and lonely.
However, it is not an easy task to solve these problems. Educational resources and entertainment resources in Pujiao Village are relatively scarce, which makes life more difficult for the children. At the same time, due to imperfect transportation and communication facilities, it is difficult for children to keep in touch with the outside world and obtain the latest information and resources. It also means that more external support and input is needed to address the problems faced by children. In addition to material help, children also need more spiritual care. In the predicament of this era, it is very important for children to feel the warmth and attention of society. In this difficult time, children need more attention and love.
Even in such a difficult environment, many children are still able to grow up strong. They have a strong will and tenacious vitality, and can find the meaning and value of life in difficulties. These children often have their own dreams and pursuits. They study hard, explore bravely, and are eager to change their own destiny and the future of their hometown. The stories of these children are full of touching power, making people feel the preciousness of life and the importance of courage.
In short, the loneliness and isolation of children in the Sino-Vietnamese border area is a very serious problem, and the solution of this problem requires the joint efforts and attention of all sectors of society.
